The Rocket Ship

13 Mar

Ollie built a rocket ship today. He’s been planning it for some time, collecting soda bottles, looking at pictures. I had it pictured in my mind; a couple feet tall, something the right size for Lego men. He had something else in mind.

I offered my services as taper and cutter, but he wanted to do most of it by himself. He knew exactly where he wanted each box and bottle to go, where to put doors and windows, and even added water to a bottle for a fuel tank.
It was SO HARD to watch him struggle with the tape, or to see him doing something one way when I knew another way would work better. I kept my mouth shut as much as I could, and when I broke down and offered suggestions he almost always said he wanted to figure it out.

He ended up with a rocket that stands upright to blast off, then lays flat while its in space. It has room for two, and windows that line up, starting at the bottom of the rocket and going all the way through to the nose.
He took his monkey (who he named Albert, just for this mission), his sister, and two of her stuffed animals on the maiden voyage.
The plan was to throw Albert out once they reached space to see if it was safe.
He survived.

Thanks, Lori! He’s already making plans for what he wants to change. He’s afraid having the fuel tank in the middle of the rocket is a little dangerous.

How awesome! (That is a huge room to work in as well! Wow!)

We love the space! It’s one of the benefits of moving to a house with a basement and not having any furniture to fill it up!

That is one items missing from Cali homes; basements! I so wish we had one!
